Temporary Huayna Picchu Closure

If your plans include visiting Machu Picchu [Altitude: approximately 2,430 meters / 7,972 feet] and climbing Huayna Picchu [Altitude: approximately 2,693 meters / 8,835 feet] also identified as Wayna Picchu Huaynapicchu or Wuaynapicchu it is important to know the latest announcements regarding access to this route.

Why is There a Temporary Closure at Huayna Picchu?

Peru’s Ministry of Culture through the Decentralized Directorate of Culture of Cusco has announced an extension of the temporary closure for Route 3-A Wayna Picchu until April 27 2025. ✅✅✅✅✅Reopening is planned for April 28 ✅✅✅✅✅.

Additionally access to associated routes is temporarily suspended: Route 3-C (Gran Caverna) Route 3-D (Huchuy Picchu) between April 17 and April 20 2025.

The reasons for this closure are: ✅ Conservation work on recently identified Inca walls. ✅ Protection of archaeological structures to ensure preservation. ✅ Safety for visitors and guides especially during the rainy season December to April when weather can affect trekking routes.
