Itinerary
Puno – Chivay
Your journey begins at 6:15 am with a convenient pickup from your hotel in Puno. From there, you will head towards the magnificent Colca Valley, making several scenic stops along the way. Your first stop is Lagunillas, a picturesque viewpoint offering panoramic views of small lakes that shimmer like mirrors reflecting the clear blue sky. Here, you can observe graceful flamingos and capture memorable photos against the stunning backdrop.
Next, you will visit Patahuasi (Pampa Cañahuas), located within the Aguada Blanca National Reserve at an altitude of approximately 4,800 meters (15,748 feet) above sea level. Nestled behind the impressive Chachani Volcano, this area is home to a variety of South American camelids, including vicuñas, llamas, alpacas, and guanacos. Enjoy traditional hot beverages like coca and muña, and take the opportunity to purchase unique local handicrafts. Your journey continues to Tocrapampa, where you can observe more of these fascinating camelids in their natural habitat.
At 10:30 pm, you’ll arrive at the Mirador de los Volcanes, situated at an elevation of 4,900 meters (16,076 feet) above sea level. This vantage point provides breathtaking views of the surrounding volcanoes, including Ampato, Sabancaya, Hualca Hualca, and Misti. After soaking in the spectacular scenery, you will reach Chivay around 1:00 pm and check into your hotel for a restful evening.
Colca Canyon – Cruz del Cóndor – Arequipa
After a hearty breakfast at your accommodation in Chivay at 6:45 am, your adventure continues as you depart for the iconic Cruz del Cóndor viewpoint at 7:00 am. Here, you’ll witness an exhibition of local handicrafts and enjoy the traditional “wititi” dance, a cultural performance recognized by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage.
Arriving at the Cruz del Cóndor viewpoint around 8:30 am, you will have the opportunity to watch the majestic flight of condors—massive Andean birds that are symbols of the Andes Mountains and Andean culture. These magnificent birds, currently facing extinction, soar gracefully over the vast Colca Canyon, one of the deepest canyons in the world at 4,160 meters (13,645 feet).
