Itinerary
Cusco – Laguna Qoricocha – Huchuy Qosqo – Lamay – Cusco
The day starts early. Between 6:30 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. our private transportation picks you up directly from your hotel in Cusco. We first drive about 30 minutes to the small town of Ccorao, then continue on a dirt road up into the highlands toward Patabamba community. After another short drive we reach Laguna Qoricocha at 4,050 m, the official starting point of the hike.
From the lake we climb steadily for about 45 minutes to the Apacheta pass at 4,200 m – the highest point of the day. Once over the pass, the trail descends gently. The next two hours take us through green valleys, past the old community of Pukamarca, and along the impressive Puma Punku canyon.
A restored section of the original Inca Trail brings us directly to Huchuy Qosqo Inca City, located at 3,600 m with wide views over the Sacred Valley. Our guide gives a complete explanation of the temples, storage buildings, terraces, and water reservoir. You have enough time to walk around and take photographs.
After the visit we stop for the included box lunch made with natural local ingredients. When everyone is ready we begin the final two-hour descent on a clear path down to Lamay town at 2,941 m beside the Urubamba river. Our private transportation waits there to drive you comfortably back to your hotel in Cusco, arriving between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
