The Vilcabamba mountain range, home to Rainbow Mountain and Red Valley, is a large area southeast of Cusco. It’s a key part of the Andes and has many snowy peaks. These snowy mountains and big glaciers create stunning high-altitude landscapes with beautiful lagoons, lakes, and valleys.
Today, many of these peaks have less snow, revealing the rocks’ natural colors. The unique soil and minerals give the mountains their bright colors. The views are amazing! You’ll also meet local people who raise alpacas and llamas, making this tour unforgettable. Enjoy the fresh air and experience the 5036-meter-high Vinicunca, also known as Rainbow Mountain.
“Machu Picchu Peru Travel” always provides quality service, and what our customers say speaks to the quality we deliver; thousands of satisfied passengers will give you the confidence to trust us. We start the tour early in the morning. We’ll pick you up from your hotel around 3:30 to 4:00 AM. Then, we’ll drive for about 2 hours to Cusipata, where you’ll enjoy a tasty breakfast.
Next, we’ll drive another hour to Phullawasipata (4626 m / 15177 ft), the starting point for our hike. We’ll begin hiking uphill for about 1.5 to 2 hours. Along the way, you’ll see beautiful landscapes, big mountains, and local people in their traditional clothes going about their day. You’ll also see groups of alpacas, llamas, and sometimes wild vicuñas, along with small lagoons formed by melting glaciers.
When we reach the summit of Vinicunca (5036 m / 16522 ft), you’ll have some free time to rest and take photos. Then, we’ll head back using a different path through the Red Valley, named for the red-colored soil. It’s a quieter area, offering a unique experience as we hike downhill for another 2 hours back to Phullawasipata.
After the hike, we’ll have a comforting lunch and then return to Cusco around 4:30 or 5:00 PM. We’ll drop you off just a block from the main square to avoid traffic.
