Itinerary

DAY 1:

Cusco to Soraypampa and Humantay Lake

Your day begins early! We’ll pick you up from your hotel in Cusco at 5 a.m. A 2.5-hour drive through the beautiful Apurímac Valley brings us to Mollepata (9,200 ft / 2,803 m), where you’ll enjoy a hearty breakfast.

After that, we’ll head to Soraypampa (12,631 ft / 3,850 m). From here, the hike starts! It’s about an hour uphill to reach Humantay Lake (13,714 ft / 4,180 m). The lake’s crystal-clear turquoise waters are surrounded by breathtaking snow-capped peaks. If hiking isn’t your thing, you can rent a horse to take you up (not included).

After exploring the lake, we’ll return to Soraypampa. Spend the evening relaxing and soaking in the views of Salkantay Mountain before resting in a cozy cabin.

After breakfast, the hike gets steeper! We’ll a uphill hike for about 2 hours to the Salkantay Pass (15,255 ft / 4,650 m). You can take the walk calmly, in this area there are no difficult areas to do, when you reach the top, you’ll be surrounded by towering peaks, including Salkantay Trek Mountain (20,717 ft / 6,217 m).

A short hike down brings us to the glistening Salkantay Lake. It’s just as beautiful as Humantay! After exploring, we’ll head back to Soraypampa for lunch and then drive back to Cusco. Expect to arrive around 5 p.m.

What is the difficulty level of the Laguna Humantay hike?

The hike is easy compared to longer treks like the Inca Trail or Salkantay Trek. However, being in good physical condition and acclimating to the altitude is important. Arriving in Cusco 1–2 days before the tour is recommended.

Can I do the hike if I have a food allergy?

Yes, but let us know your allergy details when booking. This helps us prepare and ensure your safety. For severe allergies, bring someone responsible who can assist you if needed.

Do I need trekking poles for the hike?

The route is not too difficult, so trekking poles aren’t necessary. If you have knee issues, poles are recommended.

There’s no internet on the trail. At Soraypampa Camp, you might get Wi-Fi for 20–30 soles per hour, but the signal is weak.

  • Dry season (March–October): Minimal rain, best time for tours.

Is travel insurance needed?
