Multi-Day Treks to Machu Picchu

Peru’s Andes offer some of the most rewarding multi-day trekking routes in South America, each ending at the gates of Machu Picchu. Choosing the right trek depends on your fitness level, the landscapes you want to see, and how much time you have.

The Classic Inca Trail (4 days) is the only trek that enters Machu Picchu through the Sun Gate on foot, following the original Inca route past the ruins of Wiñay Wayna and Intipata. Permits are limited and sell out months in advance, so early booking is essential.

The Salkantay Trek (5 days) is a physically demanding but non-permit-restricted alternative, crossing a 4,600-meter pass beneath the snow-capped Salkantay peak, with a stop at natural hot springs.

The Lares Trek (4 days) prioritizes cultural immersion, passing through remote weaving communities and traditional Andean villages rarely visited by other trekkers.

The Choquequirao Trek (5 days) leads to a remote, largely unexcavated Inca site often called “Machu Picchu’s sister city” — ideal for travelers seeking solitude over crowds.

All of our multi-day treks include camping equipment or lodges, meals, entrance tickets, and English-speaking guides, and can be combined with extra days in Cusco or the Sacred Valley to build a complete 5 to 9-day itinerary.
