Itinerary

DAY 1:

Cusco - City Tour

Morning: Upon your arrival in Cusco, you will be transferred to your hotel. Here, you can enjoy a refreshing cup of aromatic coca leaf tea, which is traditionally consumed to help acclimate to the city’s high altitude.

1:00 PM: City Tour Excursion:

  • Temple of the Sun (Qoricancha): Our first stop is the Temple of the Sun, known as Qoricancha. This was the most important temple in the Inca Empire, dedicated to the Sun God, Inti. Marvel at its impressive architecture and learn about its historical significance.
  • Sacsayhuaman: Next, we visit the Fortress of Sacsayhuaman, an impressive example of Inca military architecture. The massive stones used in its construction and its strategic location offer stunning views of the city.
  • Qenko: Our tour continues to Qenko, a ceremonial site known for its labyrinthine underground passageways and religious carvings.
  • Puca Pucara: We then head to Puca Pucara, which means “Red Fortress.” This complex likely served as a military checkpoint and administrative center.
  • Tambomachay: Our final stop is Tambomachay, often referred to as “The Baths of the Inca.” This site features a series of aqueducts, canals, and waterfalls that run through the terraced rocks, believed to have been used for ritual cleansing and water worship.

Throughout the tour, you will learn about the rich history and cultural significance of each site from our knowledgeable guide.

6:00 PM: We will conclude the tour and return to your hotel.

Overnight: Enjoy your evening at the hotel in Cusco, where you can relax and reflect on the day’s experiences. Take advantage of the local cuisine and vibrant atmosphere of the city.

On this day, you will have the extraordinary opportunity to take part in the magnificent Inti Raymi tour, also known as the Festival of the Sun, which has been celebrated since Inca times. Inti Raymi is a highly significant cultural event in the Andean region, held annually to honor the Incan sun god, Inti.

The Inti Raymi Fest consists of three distinct scenes set in different locations. The tour commences at 7:00 a.m. with a hotel transfer. Our first stop is the Palace of Qorikancha, situated on Sol Avenue. This historic temple held immense importance in the Inca Empire and serves as a central part of the festivities.

Next, we will proceed to the Main Square (Plaza de Armas of Cusco), where the second stage of the celebration takes place. Here, you will witness captivating parades, traditional dances, and various public events that are integral to the Inti Raymi experience.

Finally, we will journey to Sacsayhuaman, located just 3 km from Cusco. This remarkable site serves as the focal point for many key ceremonies and performances during the Sun Festival.

The tour concludes around 5:00 p.m.

Overnight: Hotel in Cusco.

8:00 AM: Begin your full-day tour of the Sacred Valley of the Incas with a hotel pick-up. This tour includes visits to notable archaeological sites such as Pisaq and Ollantaytambo.

Our first stop will visit Taray, where you can enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of the entire Sacred Valley.

  • Pisaq: Located approximately 33 kilometers (20 miles) northeast of Cusco at an elevation of 2,972 meters (9,751 feet), Pisaq serves as the gateway to explore the Sacred Valley. Here, you will marvel at the archaeological complex, which offers stunning vistas of the surrounding mountains and valleys. Pisaq likely served as an important strategic stronghold and ceremonial center for the Incas. The temperature in this area ranges between 14 to 20 degrees Celsius (57 to 68 degrees Fahrenheit) during the day and night.
  • We will also visit the Pisaq market, where you can browse and purchase a variety of goods, including straw hats, alpaca textiles, musical instruments, paintings, ceramics, antiques, and jewelry.
  • Urubamba: Next, we will proceed to Urubamba, a notable town within the Sacred Valley, where you will have time to enjoy a buffet lunch. Various restaurants in the area offer this option.
  • Ollantaytambo Inca site: Our tour continues with a visit to the Inca fortress and citadel of Ollantaytambo, strategically built to guard the entrance of this part of the valley and protect it from potential invasions by tribes from the low jungle. The fortress features a series of impressive stone terraces, accessible by climbing lengthy staircases. Ollantaytambo is situated across from Pisaq, approximately 72 kilometers (45 miles) northwest of Cusco. The streets of Ollantaytambo still retain the layout from the Inca period. The archaeological complex of Ollantaytambo served as a vital military, religious, and agricultural center.

4:00 PM: We will gather at the Ollantaytambo train station to board the train to Aguas Calientes, also known as Machu Picchu Town, where we will spend the night.

7:00 PM: Meet with our guide at the hotel, who will provide important details and information about the activities planned for the following day.

During this time, we will explore remarkable sites such as the Temple of the Three Windows, the Solar Clock, the Sun Temple, the Inca Palace, the Royal Tomb, the Main Plaza, the Waterfall Fountains, the Condor Temple, and more.

The specific sites visited will depend on the entrance ticket obtained at the time of your reservation.

Our driver was amazing, very professional and helpful, the train provided views that were breathtaking and our Guide “Willie” was the best! Willie took us on the most incredible tour, he knew all the right places for pictures, his knowledge was amazing and he answered all of our questions and more. He provided a full day experience that was nothing short of perfection. This is the only way to go and see this; we’re definitely coming back!

Amazing experience, amazing tour guide It was one of the best experiences in our lives. We strongly recommend that anyone of moderate fitness and above to try it. It is good to have a pair of hiking shoes to make the experience better. Our guide (Willy) was amazing, he helped us a lot with the trail, he was well prepared and we didn't feel any risk at any moment. Also, he was very explanatory about inkas history and the monuments we saw during the trail. The quality of this experience is very related to the tour guide you will select. This guy was one of the best tour guides we had so far. There is no comparison to the other guides we had. We strongly recommend this experience with this guide. PS#1: bring a second t-shirt with you to change before you take the traditional photos of Machupicchu. Ps#2: Willy is a very good photographer, and gave guidance about the best place to take photos.
