Itinerary

DAY 1

Cusco - City Tour

Morning: Upon your arrival in Cusco, you will be transferred to your hotel. Here, you can enjoy a refreshing cup of aromatic coca leaf tea, which is traditionally consumed to help acclimate to the city’s high altitude.

1:00 PM: City Tour Excursion:

  • Temple of the Sun (Qoricancha): Our first stop is the Temple of the Sun, known as Qoricancha. This was the most important temple in the Inca Empire, dedicated to the Sun God, Inti. Marvel at its impressive architecture and learn about its historical significance.
  • Sacsayhuaman: Next, we visit the Fortress of Sacsayhuaman, an impressive example of Inca military architecture. The massive stones used in its construction and its strategic location offer stunning views of the city.
  • Qenko: Our tour continues to Qenko, a ceremonial site known for its labyrinthine underground passageways and religious carvings.
  • Puca Pucara: We then head to Puca Pucara, which means “Red Fortress.” This complex likely served as a military checkpoint and administrative center.
  • Tambomachay: Our final stop is Tambomachay, often referred to as “The Baths of the Inca.” This site features a series of aqueducts, canals, and waterfalls that run through the terraced rocks, believed to have been used for ritual cleansing and water worship.

Throughout the tour, you will learn about the rich history and cultural significance of each site from our knowledgeable guide.

6:00 PM: We will conclude the tour and return to your hotel.

Overnight: Enjoy your evening at the hotel in Cusco, where you can relax and reflect on the day’s experiences. Take advantage of the local cuisine and vibrant atmosphere of the city.

On this day, you will have the extraordinary opportunity to take part in the magnificent Inti Raymi tour 2026, also known as the Festival of the Sun, which has been celebrated since Inca times. Inti Raymi is a highly significant cultural event in the Andean region, held annually to honor the Incan sun god, Inti.

10:15 to 10:45 Bus Boarding

Our team will greet you from 10:15am to 10:45am at Plazoleta Santa Teresa (11,152 ft / 3,399 m) for check-in using your passport. Once registered you’ll hop on the Inti Raymi tour bus which takes about 45 minutes to reach Sacsayhuaman the Inca fortress where the ceremony kicks off. Staff will make sure everyone’s sorted before departure.

10:45 Bus Departure to Sacsayhuaman

The buses roll out sharp at 10:45am for the ride to Sacsayhuaman (12,139 ft / 3,700 m).

Don’t forget to grab a bite from the lunch box provided since there’s zero food stalls at the event.

Pro tip: pack water and sunscreen too—it’s a long day under the Andean sun.

11:30 to 12:30 Arrival & Seating in Sacsayhuaman

By 11:30am the bus pulls up to the venue. You’ll pass through security checkpoints and snag an Inti Raymi 2025 program booklet to get the lowdown on the rituals.

Our guide will help you find your assigned seats in the bleachers which offer a clear view of the main stage. Expect crowds but the setup is organized.

13:00 Inti Raymi Ceremony Starts

The ceremony start with the actor portraying Pachacutec the Inca emperor who symbolizes Inti’s power. Over 90 minutes you’ll see traditional dances, symbolic fires, and processions representing the four regions of the empire.

Though the dialogue’s in Quechua the visuals are mind-blowing and the booklet helps decode what’s going down.

15:00 Ending Inti Raymi Board Tour Bus

Once the show wraps up around 3pm staff will direct everyone back to the buses. Keep your program booklet handy if you want to revisit details later. Traffic near the site can get hectic so sticking with the group is key.

16:30 Arrival in Cusco

The bus drops you off at Plazoleta Santa Teresa by 4:30pm. Sometimes cops reroute traffic due to crowds so the final stop might switch to Limacpampa Plaza (11,155 ft / 3,400 m).

Either way you’ll be back in central Cusco ready to hit the road for dinner or rest. Note: Post-event delays happen occasionally but the team keeps things moving smoothly.

Overnight: Hotel in Cusco.

8:00 AM: Begin your full-day tour of the Sacred Valley of the Incas with a hotel pick-up. This tour includes visits to notable archaeological sites such as Pisaq and Ollantaytambo.

Our first stop will visit Taray, where you can enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of the entire Sacred Valley.

  • Pisaq: Located approximately 33 kilometers (20 miles) northeast of Cusco at an elevation of 2,972 meters (9,751 feet), Pisaq serves as the gateway to explore the Sacred Valley. Here, you will marvel at the archaeological complex, which offers stunning vistas of the surrounding mountains and valleys. Pisaq likely served as an important strategic stronghold and ceremonial center for the Incas. The temperature in this area ranges between 14 to 20 degrees Celsius (57 to 68 degrees Fahrenheit) during the day and night.
  • We will also visit the Pisaq market, where you can browse and purchase a variety of goods, including straw hats, alpaca textiles, musical instruments, paintings, ceramics, antiques, and jewelry.
  • Urubamba: Next, we will proceed to Urubamba, a notable town within the Sacred Valley, where you will have time to enjoy a buffet lunch. Various restaurants in the area offer this option.
  • Ollantaytambo Inca site: Our tour continues with a visit to the Inca fortress and citadel of Ollantaytambo, strategically built to guard the entrance of this part of the valley and protect it from potential invasions by tribes from the low jungle. The fortress features a series of impressive stone terraces, accessible by climbing lengthy staircases. Ollantaytambo is situated across from Pisaq, approximately 72 kilometers (45 miles) northwest of Cusco. The streets of Ollantaytambo still retain the layout from the Inca period. The archaeological complex of Ollantaytambo served as a vital military, religious, and agricultural center.

4:00 PM: We will gather at the Ollantaytambo train station to board the train to Aguas Calientes, also known as Machu Picchu Town, where we will spend the night.

7:00 PM: Meet with our guide at the hotel, who will provide important details and information about the activities planned for the following day.

Overnight: Hotel in Aguas Calientes.

7:00 AM: After the breakfast, we will meet our guide at the designated location before heading to the bus station for a scenic 25-minute journey to Machu Picchu.

8:00 AM: Our guided tour of the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu will commence, lasting approximately 3 hours. During this time, we will explore remarkable sites such as the Temple of the Three Windows, the Solar Clock, the Sun Temple, the Inca Palace, the Royal Tomb, the Main Plaza, the Waterfall Fountains, the Condor Temple, and more.

The specific sites visited will depend on the entrance ticket obtained at the time of your reservation.

(Optional): If available, you may have the opportunity to venture into another significant archaeological site known as Huayna Picchu. This towering peak stands behind Machu Picchu, reaching an altitude of approximately 2,720 meters (8,920 feet) above sea level at its summit. Please note that reservations for Huayna Picchu must be made 2 to 3 months in advance and has an extra cost of $60 usd per person.

12:00 PM: Following our enriching exploration of Machu Picchu, we will board the bus for the return journey to Aguas Calientes, also referred to as Machu Picchu Town. Here, you will have ample time to savor a delicious lunch.

2:30 PM: At the designated time, we will board the train back to Ollantaytambo. Upon arrival, a comfortable bus will be awaiting us to transport us back to Cusco.

7:00 PM: Our unforgettable tour concludes as we arrive at your hotel in Cusco.

Night: Rest and relax at your hotel in Cusco.

Inti Raymi was well executed and choreographed performance and ceremony. The tour company did excellent in communicating how to meet , what to bring , how to get in and how to exit. It is the type of festival you get to do once just to experience it. It was very crowded though , and everything takes forever to do (like to get to your seat). Plan at least 2 hours before and after the show.

It was a super fun experience. Glad I did it but wouldn’t need to do it a second time. Machu Picchu Peru Travel was impeccable as always though! Great lunch that quinoa bowl was delicious. Fresh fruit. They guided us through everything kept it organized Willy was great and Tania was amazing setting it all up. The value is a weird thing for me to review because it was super cool experience and would never do it without tickets but I didn’t understand a lot because the ceremony didn’t even let the Spanish translator go off most of the time and then the English translator spoke very low. But like the festival was dope and neat. Lots of amazing performers and costumes but sat there a little lost. Value for Machu Picchu Peru travel is priceless though.

We booked the private Machu Picchu experience for two, including a private car transfer from Cusco to the train station, the Vistadome train, and a private guided tour of the site. It is certainly a premium-priced experience, but for such a once-in-a-lifetime destination, I would absolutely do it again.Everything was perfectly organized from start to finish. Communication with Tania was excellent throughout the booking process. She was always responsive and helpful, and even came to our hotel the day before to hand over all our tickets, explain the itinerary in detail, and answer all our questions. That personal touch was greatly appreciated. When we arrived at the train station, our guide, Willy, warmly welcomed us and stayed with us throughout the entire visit. He was incredibly friendly, professional, and knowledgeable, sharing fascinating insights into the history, culture, and significance of Machu Picchu. His English was excellent, making every explanation easy to understand. He also knew all the best photo spots and helped us capture some unforgettable memories. To top it off, he recommended a very good restaurant (not included in the price) for after our visit, which was the perfect end to the visit while waiting for the return transfer.Be prepared for a long day from Cusco—our day started at 5:00 a.m. and we returned around 8:30 p.m. Most of the time is spent on transportation, transfers, and waiting (each way is around 4 hours: car+train+bus), while the visit to Machu Picchu itself lasts around 2.5 hours (we had booked Circuit 1, which offers the best views although you are not able to enter the village itself (this would be circuit 2). However, every minute is absolutely worth it.A big thank you to Tania and especially to Willy for making this unforgettable experience so smooth and enjoyable. Highly recommended!
