Leaving the city of Cusco and heading towards kilometer 39 of the Cusco-Urubamba highway, a trip in private transportation will take approximately 45 minutes to reach the Sacred Valley ATV base.
Upon arrival, you will have a 10 to 15 minute training session to familiarize yourself with the ATVs. It is also a good time to acquire the necessary elements for the route, such as water, energy bars, snacks, cookies, rehydrating drinks and make use of the restrooms.
Once ready, we will start driving the ATVs. After approximately 10 minutes, we will make our first stop to enjoy the majestic view of the prominent snow-capped peaks in the area, including the Chicon and Veronica Mountains. This stop offers a perfect photo opportunity and a guided explanation of these important landmarks.
Continuing our tour, the route presents incredible landscapes with diverse ascents and descents, ensuring a lot of fun along the way.
Moray: After about 45 minutes of travel, we will arrive at the archaeological site of Moray. Here we will stop for a guided tour by one of our professional bilingual guides, who will explain the impressive agricultural terraces.
After our visit to Moray, we will pass through the typical village of Maras, known for its colonial portals.
Salt Mines: The final point of our visit will be the famous Maras Salt Mines. We will drive the all-terrain vehicles to the ticket checkpoint, beyond which it is considered too dangerous to drive. From here, our agency will provide transportation to the salt mines, which will take about 15 minutes. At the salt mines, you will have the opportunity to walk and explore the area.
After visiting the salt mines, we will return to the base and then return to Cusco. On the way we will stop at a handicraft market in Chinchero. This visit is highly recommended to learn about traditional Andean weaving techniques and natural dyeing processes.
We will then return to Cusco, concluding our services for the day.

The salt mines of Maras have been important since pre-Inca times. Salt producers use natural spring water, which allows it to evaporate and leave salt crystals. This traditional method has been practiced for generations and Maras salt is known for its distinctive flavor and nutritional value.
Moray is home to agricultural terraces that resemble a Roman amphitheater. The terraces have different levels dug into the ground, each with a different temperature. The Incas used this site as an agricultural laboratory, experimenting with the growing conditions for crops. It played a crucial role in the development of Peru’s diverse potato and corn varieties.
