My first time in Machu Picchu , and I had great expectations. I was picked up promptly from the hotel by Percy, (very friendly guy), After the long train ride on the Inca Rail train, I arrived in Aguas Calientes at 9 am. I was told I would join my tour group there, but the person that picked me up at the station told me that I would have a different guide and I was supposed to wait at the plaza . I waited for about an hour, and when I finally see the new guide, he told me to wait for another guide, so I was switched again. I didn't leave the town until around 11 am. We finally arrived in MP at 11:30 am. My new guide was unaware that my entrance ticket was for the morning session. I only had 30 minutes to get in!, we he realized this, he told me to go on and enter on my own while the rest of the group , which had afternoon tickets, was using the restrooms and taking their time.
So there I was by myself, taking pictures and trying to make the best of it,
I eventually found the group an hour later, but the rest of the tour was also a disappointment. The guide barely explained things to us, also he would skip important places when they were occupied by other groups. After an hour and a half he left us on our own. We were advised to leave the site early enough so we wouldn't miss our train back to Cusco.
The return train suffered mechanical issues half way .We were stranded for an hour and a half. We didn't make it back until well after 9pm. (We were supposed to arrive at 7:30 pm), Thankfully my driver Percy waited for me. (Thank you, Percy).
He waited for me in the rain while other drivers left.
Machu Picchu is a wonderful place and I wish I would have had a more positive experience. I think every paying customer deserves to be treated with consideration and respect , no matter if it is a single person or a group.
I did not have a way of communicating with the Company's representative, Tania, during the day, since my phone didn't work in Peru.

Fue un viaje muy hermoso el tour q tomamos fue genial fuimos 7 personas tomamos un tours privado para nosotros todo lo q nos ofreció nos cumplió . La atención muy buena el chófer y el guía muy buen trato con mucha amabilidad nos llevaron a un almuerzo buffet muy pero muy bueno todo muy rico gracias Tania por todo lo bonito que pasamos un buen servicio.

We travelled there and back via Peru Rail Vista dome and enjoyed the spectacular scenery and efficient service ...about 1 hour

Walked from station directly to Gringo Bills guest house in the town of Machu Picchu (10 mins walk)

Spent the day walking along the river to the hot springs then to the butterfly house .. had tea there and saw a few butterflies , many cocoons and caterpillars .. beautiful scenary river and rocks and mountains but butterflies? Don't go for the butterflies!

Had early dinner in the village then to bed to awake at 4:30 for excellent buffet breakfast included in the rate of the charming zany inn.

Our wonderful guide Carlos Castillo from Ventura travel company met us in the lobby at 5:30 and we set off leaving our luggage behind at thei inn , for the bus to MP . Long line already awaited at bus stop but somehow we were soon on a bus rounding the mountain on a stunning short 25 mins trip to the citadel. At the top we were among the first to enter and see the wonders of Machu Picchu with our own eyes. Awesome in the real sense of the word.

Beware there are no rest rooms inside the citadel so have a single sol available in order to pay for a trip to the restroom before entering the citadel!

Your ticket entitles you to spend from 6-12 inside the citadel (?or you can choose afternoon hours 12:00 - 17:09)

In the early morning there are few visitors and it is cold .. perfect climbing weather . Wear layers so you can strip as the day wears on . By noon I was wearing a short sleeved T shirt. Also bring hiking poles they will help you balance on the steep rocky stairs up to the temples. Don't be afraid to come to Machu Picchu. Even if you cannot climb easily there is a lot to see on the lower levels and it is a sight you will never forget .

Do as much as you are comfortable doing but if you can reach the summit you will feel exhilarated!

We returned to the inn in time to pick up our luggage and enjoy the spectacular train ride back to Urabamba . We were met by a pre arranged taxi , picked up our luggage at the Hotel Tampa del Inka where we had stayed in Urabamba and in silence drove to Cusco our next destination savoring the memory of Machu Picchu
